Mines a marked area from the top downward. Its boundary is a closed, flat redstone-dust rectangle behind the machine. The quarry body can assemble without the dust, but it waits until the loop is closed.
- Input: pickaxe and fuel in the chest.
- Output: mined blocks and drops in the barrel.
- Use: 5 resonance per mined block. Better tool materials work faster. A block too strong for the current pickaxe is skipped and left in place.

Rblocks are redstone blocks, not dust. Start the dust immediately outside them, go around the rear mining area, and close the loop. The rearR A Rrow is the near edge of the rectangle. Mining starts one block below the machine's level and continues toward bedrock.

The . cells in this example mark the area inside the loop; they are not part of the machine recipe. The dust needs supported ground and must remain on one level. A diagonal corner or one missing dust piece leaves the boundary open.
Mining animation (beta.12+)
While the quarry works, two glowing rails cross over its marked area and move downward as it digs. A crystal hangs above the current block and briefly beams to each successful break. This display is cosmetic: mining speed, energy use, drops, and protection checks stay the same. Server owners can hide it with visuals.quarry-animations: false.
